Text messages sent from our system into India as a response are categorized as “Promotional” by default and carry the following limitations below.
People on the Do Not Call Registry will Not Receive Texts
If you notice that people from india that send you texts are not receiving responses from our system, they could be registered on the National Do Not Call Registry.
If this is the case and the person wishes to receive text messages from the eGo Connect system, they can update the DNC settings for their phone number by following the instructions on this website.
They Receive a Response from a Different Number (i.e. “XX-NNNNNN”)
After someone sends a text message to your phone number, they will receive a response back from an alternate number. They are likely to see a number that is composed of 2 letters with by 6 numbers instead of your normal eGo Connect phone number. Due to this change, some recipients won’t be able to send a reply back to your Twilio phone number.
As stated in another article about text messaging outside the US, if you are using our text Inquiry features, this won’t effect you in most cases because recipients will receive one text back along with a link that they are not required to respond to. This limitation will primarily effect the text donation feature since any second-time donor will be in a 2-way interaction with our system.
Messages Can Only be Delivered from 9AM-9PM local Indian Time
If your recipients have experienced any delivery delays to their Indian numbers, it could be that they are texting-in to your number outside the operational hours of 9AM-9PM local Indian Time. Messages responses outside this time will likely be cached until the next day.
Frequency Limitations
Recipients can not receive more than one message, every 20 minutes coming from the same phone number to the same phone number with the same message. This likely won’t be an issue depending on your eGo Connect usage and the fact that each response does not contain the same exact message body.
Keep in mind that these limitations are regulations established by the Indian government. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us at any time.
